Yoga Teacher Training
Aum hOMe Shala is a Yoga Alliance–registered school offering 200- and 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training programs that prepare teachers to reach underserved populations through public schools, after-school programs, universities, and hospitals. Celebrating its eighth year, The Shala’s YTT curriculum focuses on providing yoga to a wide range of people, from students to the disabled, by incorporating modifications that help make yoga accessible to all.
Yoga Therapy Certification
A member school of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, Aum hOMe Shala offers an 800-Hour Yoga Therapy Certification program. Our curriculum, taught by nationally and internationally recognized faculty, includes Level I and Level II courses as well as a clinical component delivered in partnership with Active Sports Medicine, a physical therapy clinic owned and directed by Dr. Osvaldo Perez, Associate Director of our Yoga Therapy Level I program.
Preventative and restorative in nature, yoga therapy adapts traditional yogic techniques and integrates them with Western medical knowledge to create a contemporary holistic approach to health care. Studies show that yoga therapy is particularly effective in treating chronic conditions that persist despite conventional medical treatment. With the goal of creating optimal health, a yoga therapist focuses on the individual at the physical, psychological, and spiritual levels, and prescribes specific protocols to manage their health challenges, reduce symptoms, restore balance, and increase vitality.
Yoga in Schools
AUM hOMe Shala has pioneered the use of yoga in a seven-year pilot program called Chill Out! Initiated by the national organization Do the Right Thing and the City of Miami Police Department, Chill Out! brings yoga to Miami-Dade County schoolchildren preparing for the Florida Comprehensive Aptitude Test (FCAT). To date, we have served 2,250 kids, at schools including Eneida Hartner Elementary, Morningside Elementary, Phyllis Miller Elementary, Citrus Grove Middle, Kinloch Park Middle School, Miami-Edison Middle School, West Miami Middle School, Miami-Edison Senior High, Miami-Jackson Senior High and Northwestern High School.
